solo

i'm sitting by myself looking on lake ontario
i'm watching the moon arise
the clouds, they are blue and they're purple and turqoise
as the full moon takes charge of the sky
the people around me don't notice it happen
they're lost in each other's eyes
and i'm glad that i don' t have a hand to hold
i might be missing the world go by

the fire excape, my guitar and a beer
three floors above wellington street
i'm looking down on the bald spots of people below
and they're looking down on their feet
and yeah, sometimes i wish there was someone here with me
but really i'm fine on my own
and so far i haven't been swallowed by loneliness
just because i'm living alone

and out here at night the moon gets so bright
i spend more time looking up than looking down
the moon listens well and i'm halfway to heaven
closer to the sky than the ground

i know when he comes there won't be shining armour
no white knight on his gallant steed
in fact at first glance my mother will wonder
why i fell for such a weird looking freak
and at night he will call to me down from the sidewalk
and he'll sing me a lullabye
and we'll sit on the grass at different sides of the park
and watch the moon take it's place in the sky

i'm willing to wait - hey i'm not even looking
we'll find each other when we're ready to be found
and in the meantime i'm flying solo and smiling
closer to the sky than the ground
yeah in the meantime i'm flying solo and smiling
closer to the sky than the ground
