Music Everywhere!

Apologies for how long this has taken me to get together!  A couple of things happened:

The first is simple.  Every time I got to looking up my YouTube favourites, I got sucked into that beautiful black hole and had to keep watching other YouTube stuff.  A plague on YouTube!  There is just so much goodness out there.

The second is also simple.  I live in a house where multiple people share a computer, and every time I left windows open I would return to find them closed.  I kept forgetting to make a note asking people not to do this, so it is of my own doing.  Then I’d have to start again, and we’d be back to point number one.

Here are some live events in the Bow Valley that you might like to know about:

Valley Winds Music Association concert  (including my AWESOME choir!)  – Sunday, December 14th at 2:00 pm – Rolston Recital Hall at the Banff Centre.  Advance tickets $15 and available at O Canada Soapworks or online here.

Bow Valley Chorus concert – Saturday, December 13th (Banff) and Sunday, December 14th (Canmore).  Tickets are $25 and all the information is here.

The Good Earth Cafe - Friday, December 19th, starting at 8:00 there will be a super fun jazz quartet.  Get there early to make sure you get a seat.  I am not sure if there is a cover charge, but it will be worth it if there is!

The Longest Night – a Celtic themed celebration of the season featuring In the Pink (my acapella group) – Sunday, December 21st at 7:30 pm – Ralph Connor United Church, Canmore.  FREE.

Also watch for carollers in downtown Canmore and please spend a minute to listen as you bustle by.  That is the biggest gift for the people singing - or join in!  In The Pink will be downtown from 6 - 8 pm on Friday the 12th and Friday the 19th.

Those are just a quick few – I’m sorry I didn’t have time to do more research for you.

Here are some YouTube links – WARNING – this could suck away hours of your time and make you very very happy.  I’m just posting one from each of the people and groups that have been on my mind, as a portal to all the other wonderful things they do.

Home Free Vocal Band - Angels We Have Heard On High

PianoGuys - Angels We Have Heard On High (I know I know - the same song - but SO fabulous!!)

Pentatonix - Mary Did You Know

Rajaton - something in Finnish that has to do with Christmas.  It doesn't matter if you don't know Finnish.

Spiritus Chamber Choir (my fave chamber choir doing one of my all-time fave pieces)

King’s Singers - God Rest You Merry Gentlemen

Spiritus Chamber Choir – All the Stars Looked Down

House of Doc – Coventry Carol

Miche Fambro – In a Christmas Mood

Count Your Blessings

Bruce Cockburn – Christmas

And of course, Sue Chick Denton – Hush, Songs for the Christ Child

There are so many albums and so very much Christmas music out there worth listening to.  Open your ears and be infused with the light that shines in this dark season.  It is warming, it is lifting, it is inspiring, and it is GOOD.

May you be surrounded by love, by laughter, and by all the things that make good memories this season.

Merry Christmas!
